It was a near-wet morning of Saturday, 5th of
October when we gathered at the Sg Besi toll at 8.30am on the dot! This was an
impromptu drive; a drive specially catered for Gee who was in town and had to
leave for Perth the following day.
Due to the last minute effort
by Julian, (and over a few drinks at that) only a few days before, numbers
were never going to be big. As it turned out only four cars made it though Sly
(Miata), Doc (MX3), Alan (MR2) and Lynette & Benny (Miata) were still trying
to make it till the very last minute.
At approximately 8.45pm after
filling up at the nearby Shell station, Kevin (MX3) led the convoy of Hyundai
Coupe (Sri), Fiat Coupe (Julian) and Miata (Trevor) along the NSE before
turning off to the Kajang toll plaza. From there on, traffic was extremely
light as we took the highway leading to KLIA. Needless to say the route was
supreme! It was all to short on the highway as we existed the KLIA toll plaza
in no time at all.
From there, we worked our way
to Sepang town where the road was twisty with fast corners. The scenery was
breathtaking. Very hilly and contrasting land contours were a sight for sore
eyes! And traffic was still relatively light. Our only gripe was there were
roadworks going on at some stretches causing momentarily stops.
In Sepang town, a quaint
sleepy town, we managed to find a roadside restaurant and stopped for
breakfast and managed also to gobble up delicious sardine sandwiches courtesy
of Gee who was riding with Sri.
After that fairly quick stop,
we proceeded to depart from Sepang town to Lukut via Port Dickson. We were
pleasantly surprised with the condition of the "old" road to PD!
All in all, it took us less
than 20 minutes to reach Lukut where traffic was starting to build up a
little. With only 4 cars on this drive, traffic lights poses no problems as we
were very much intact most of the time.
After a few minor frustrating
stops at the traffic lights, we reached PD town! We by-passed most of the
hotels along the way and worked our way to the other end of PD (near Tanjung
Tuan) and stopped at the public beach on the 6th mile. At 11.00am, it was
still early so parking was never going to be a problem. We managed that by
parking next to each other.
The kids (Zachary & Kieron)
were delirious to see the beach and wasted no time having a whale of a time
playing beach football and building sand castles. Gee, being the only lady
this time around didn't have a choice playing mother while the rest of us were
busy looking for a shady spot under the tree.
When we found a spot we all
agreed on, Sri initiated to rent some beach chairs while Kevin, as usual, went
around looking for chilled beers! Sri managed to get 5 chairs and Kevin
managed to get 8 cans of could-be-chillier Carlbergs.
The weather was perfect. Looks
like rain but nope! Perfect weather (for us locals)! As we chatted the
afternoon away with Trevor stocking up on the beers at some point and Julian
filling our stomach with Ramli burgers, it was soon lunchtime. After asking,
telling, threatening and bribing the kids to leave, we were soon back in our
beauties to lunch.
Gee jumped into Trevor's Miata
and with the top down, that little Miata and the rest of us followed Sri who
led the way to lunch. Not too far away, Sri managed to find a very decent "halal"
Chinese Restaurant where we all got to park in a row in front of the entrance.
The owner welcomed us with red carpets. Well. not quite, but close!
Lunch was delicious but a tad
expensive. We figured Julian's $200,000.00 car was the culprit! Anyway, with
stomachs filled, we decided to call it a day. But we weren't going to leave PD
before checking out Glory Beach Resort. This was the tentative venue of our
1st anniversary celebration next month. After a quick tour by Sri, everyone
gave him the thumbs up!
Back to good ol' KL. We took
the exact route back. Again the scenery captivated us, so we decided to stop
and take in the beauty Mother Nature has to offer. Kevin and Trevor took this
golden opportunity to jump into Julian's car and went for a spin. And what a
spin it was! All 220 horses on the Fiat Coupe were felt at every gear change!
As we continued, Kevin and
Julian decided to have a bit of fun playing catching while Gee, who was behind
the wheel of Sri's Hyundai Coupe stayed clear with Trevor sticking to them. By
4.00pm, after the KLIA toll plaza, we all stopped and said our goodbyes,
especially to Gee and thanked her for the work she's contributed to the club.
Thanks Gee, come back again SOON!
