It was a crisp Friday morning of the Federal
Territory Day. Ghaffur and Rose were the first to arrive at our breakfast
meeting place in Baitumal Restaurant. Dhanen & Shari and Kevin came next
before the rest slowly trickled in, Ronnie and Phek Choo being the last ones
at about 9.30am.
After a hearty breakfast of Roti Canai, Nasi Lemak
and Mee Hoon Goreng, we started to set off for our very first drive. Lynette &
Benny led the way thru Ulu Yam. Ghaffur & Rose turned back shortly after as
anticipated and promised to go
for the full drive the next time around.
The route chosen was perfect to say the least. The
road condition was good and traffic was light.
Approaching the steep Gohtong Jaya hilly area, the
lighter Miatas were very much quicker than the rest of the cars. The MX3s were
marginally slower up the hill with Julian in his powerful Fiat Coupe keeping a
close watch of the group riding last in line.
The air was chilly and fresh as we stop for a
breather at the Seri Malaysia Hotel. Perfect for a photo session and a couple
of beers! Beverages of all kinds were kept cool thanks to Gan and Dhanen's
in-car cooler.
Encouraged by the condition of the old route, we
decided to take it all the way to Bentong. It was initially planned that we
hit the Karak highway from then on. It proved to be a wise decision indeed!
Most parts of the roads were supreme. Narrow but supreme. And there was hardly
any traffic at all. It was indeed a cool and leisure drive to Bentong.
We arrived in Bentong around lunchtime. Right
about the time when school was out. There were admiring stares and the
occasional applause as we rode in to the quaint little town with our beauties.
To greet us in Bentong was Jeff Yue in his classic
MGB. This was the first time any of us met Jeff though we have been
communicating thru email many times before. Jeff
proceeded to take us to lunch in what was to be a really nice Chinese
Restaurant. During the meal, Jeff suggested we stop by a waterfall nearby. Sly
& Sara jumped to the idea immediately.
So after saying our goodbyes and thanks to Jeff,
Lynette & Benny again led the way to Chamang Waterfall. There were hardly
anyone there being a working Friday elsewhere outside KL. Sri & Kavitha
managed to find a spot under the shade of a huge tree. The kids were overjoyed
and parents Julian & Jess and Lui were relieved as the kids were getting a bit
bored.
Sly and Sara wasted no time at all in taking a dip
in the cool waters despite not having "proper" attire to do so. Zachary,
Dhanen, Sri and Kevin joined them soon after - all in their underwear only. It
was a real feast for the womenfolk of 2DC!
After about an hour or so of rollicking good time,
it was time to go.
We proceeded to a speciality cafe introduced by
Lynette & Benny where we had a dreamy ice-cream special along with the softest
of Yong Tau Foos and tastiest Nasi Lemak Bentong style.
By 3.00pm it was time to head on back to KL.
Benny & Lynette led us to the Karak highway where
Kevin took over and led us to KL. After the toll plaza and after a brief stop
of hugs and kisses, we all went our separate ways.
Good drive, good fun and promises were heard we
must visit the beautiful, breathtaking waterfall again...... better prepared
next time.
Next drive : Putrajaya / Port Dickson
